Request Movies and Shows with Seerr#

Seerr is a website where you request movies and shows for Harry's Plex server. You set up access once. After that, each request takes four steps.

One-time setup#

  1. Connect to Tailscale with the invite Harry sends you.
  2. On the same device, open https://seerr.itachi.dev.
  3. Choose the Plex login option and sign in with your Plex account.

You do not need a separate Seerr account. If your Plex account can see Harry's Plex server and you can open the Seerr website, you can request content.

Request a movie or show#

After the one-time setup, these are the only steps each time you want to add something:

  1. Connect Tailscale on your device. You do not need to select a server in the Tailscale app. Connecting is enough.
  2. Go to https://seerr.itachi.dev.
  3. Sign in with your Plex account, if Seerr asks.
  4. Search for the movie or show. If it already shows Requested or Available, it is already on its way or already in Plex. Otherwise, select the movie or the seasons you want and request it.

Requests for 1080p content are approved automatically. Harry does not need to approve them.

When you request a show, Seerr continues to monitor it. New episodes download automatically when they air, so you do not need to request them again.

When you finish, you can disconnect Tailscale.

After you request#

  • The title appears in Plex when the download finishes.
  • You can request a movie before its release. Seerr downloads it when it becomes available.
  • Watch in the Plex app as usual. Plex does not need Tailscale.

Troubleshooting#

  • Seerr does not load: Confirm Tailscale is connected. See Media.
  • Seerr does not load and you use another VPN: See Using Tailscale with another VPN.
  • Plex login fails or no libraries appear in Seerr: Confirm you used the Plex account that has access to Harry's server, then ask Harry to check your permissions.
