All of these services are private. Connect to Tailscale first, then pick a service.

Plex does not need Tailscale. You can watch in the Plex app without it.

1. Connect to Tailscale#

Harry sends you an invite from Tailscale by email.

  1. Open the email from Tailscale and select the invite link.
  2. Sign in to Tailscale. If you do not have a Tailscale account, create a free one.
  3. Accept the invite.
  4. If Tailscale is not installed on your device, use the official installation guide.
  5. Open Tailscale on your device, sign in with the same account, and connect.

The invite must give your Tailscale account access to the swag-itachi machine. This is the Tailscale-connected SWAG reverse proxy on Harry's Itachi Unraid server. Having Tailscale installed is not enough if the device is signed in to a different Tailscale account or tailnet.

The itachi.dev addresses point to a private Tailscale IP. Every service link below fails to load until Tailscale is connected on your device.

Tailscale needs to be connected only while you use these services. You can stay signed in to the Tailscale app and connect again when you need it.

2. Pick a service#

Network and privacy note#

Tailscale is being used here as a private connection to Harry's server, not as a full-device VPN. Only traffic needed to reach these services is sent through Tailscale. Your other internet traffic continues to use your normal connection.

Do not enable a Tailscale exit node for this setup. Exit nodes are an opt-in Tailscale feature that routes all public internet traffic through another device. See Tailscale's exit node documentation for the distinction.

Using Tailscale with another VPN#

  • Phone or tablet (iPhone, iPad, Android): Only one VPN can be on at a time. Turn off your other VPN, then connect Tailscale. Turn your other VPN back on when you finish.
  • Computer (Mac, Windows, Linux): Both can sometimes run together. If a service does not load, pause your other VPN and retry.

Troubleshooting#

  • A service does not load: Confirm Tailscale is connected and that you are signed in to the account Harry shared access with. Then retry the exact HTTPS address.
  • A service does not load and you use another VPN: Turn off the other VPN, then retry.
